A Culinary Voyage: Dinner at Morimoto on the Westerdam

During our Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice cruise, we had the distinct pleasure of dining at Morimoto, hosted in the Pinnacle Grill aboard the Westerdam. The evening was a remarkable blend of exquisite flavors, artistic presentation, and the unparalleled service that has become synonymous with our cruising adventures.

As we entered the Pinnacle Grill, we were immediately struck by the sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. The elegant décor, combined with the anticipation of experiencing the renowned culinary creations of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, set the tone for a memorable evening.

Our dinner began with appetizers that perfectly showcased the chef’s ability to balance delicate flavors with bold, unexpected twists. The tori ramen noodle soup was a heartwarming start, with tender chicken, rich broth, and perfectly cooked noodles providing a comforting and flavorful introduction. Alongside, the sushi plate featured an array of the freshest seafood, each piece meticulously arranged and garnished to highlight its natural beauty. The pristine flavors of the sushi transported us to the coasts of Japan with each bite.

The main course offered a variety of dishes, each executed to perfection. The crispy fried whole market fresh fish was a stunning centerpiece, its golden-brown exterior giving way to tender, flavorful flesh. The chicken teriyaki was a symphony of textures and flavors, the succulent chicken glazed with a sweet and savory sauce. The chicken oyster satay provided a delightful contrast, with its smoky, char-grilled flavor and tender meat.

Accompanying the main dishes were an array of side dishes that elevated the meal to new heights. The house fried rice was a comforting blend of textures and flavors, each grain perfectly cooked and infused with savory goodness. The wok-seared bok choy offered a crisp, fresh contrast, its slight bitterness balancing the richness of the main dishes. The steamed vegetables with tofu were a light and healthy complement, the tofu’s smooth texture pairing beautifully with the vibrant, fresh vegetables.

For dessert, we were presented with two exquisite creations. The dark chocolate sphere was an indulgent treat, combining rich, velvety chocolate with a delightful crunch. Each bite was a luxurious experience, the chocolate melting smoothly on the tongue. The white chocolate lime ganache, on the other hand, offered a refreshing contrast. Its creamy texture and zesty citrus notes provided a light and invigorating end to our meal.

Throughout the dinner, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our dining experience with their insights into each dish and its preparation. The sommelier’s wine pairings were thoughtfully selected, complementing the flavors of each course perfectly.

Dining at Morimoto on the Westerdam was more than just a meal; it was a culinary journey that transported us through the traditions and innovations of Japanese cuisine. This unforgettable experience was a highlight of our Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice cruise, leaving us with lasting memories of an extraordinary evening at sea.

On the waves of Arctic splendor, where the northern lights do gleam,
We embarked on a gourmet journey, a delectable dream.
In the Pinnacle Grill, we found our seat,
Amidst elegance and warmth, our hearts did beat.

The sea whispered secrets, a cold, serene song,
As we ventured to Morimoto, where flavors belong.
Tori ramen noodle soup, a warm embrace,
With tender chicken and broth, it set the pace.

Sushi art on our plates, fresh and divine,
Each bite a whisper of the ocean’s brine.
Crispy fried whole fish, golden and bright,
Tender flesh within, a culinary delight.

Chicken teriyaki, a dance of sweet and savory,
With chicken oyster satay, smoky and merry.
House fried rice, a symphony of taste,
Wok-seared bok choy, with crispness laced.

Steamed vegetables with tofu, light and pure,
Each dish a masterpiece, flavors demure.
Wine flowed freely, pairings so fine,
Enhancing each course, like a poet’s line.

Service impeccable, with grace and care,
In this floating paradise, none could compare.
As the Arctic winds whispered outside,
We savored each moment, side by side.

Dining at Morimoto, a night to remember,
A culinary voyage in the heart of December.
From the sushi's whisper to the fish's golden hue,
An unforgettable feast, where dreams came true.
